Local barber shows love to a mother battling cancer

A local barbershop owner completes an act of kindness for a total stranger

IMPERIAL COUNTY, Calif. (KYMA, KECY) - A trip to the barbershop would later turn into an act of kindness when a local barber decided to show solidarity to a woman who is battling cancer, and now they are like family.

They were total strangers.

Briana Miranda, a 26-year-old mother and grad student, said her life took a turn after she was recently diagnosed with lymphoma.

Little did she know, a trip to the barbershop wouldn't just change her look.

It would change her life.

“It was a wild card at first, to be honest. And honestly, it wasn’t a wild card it was all due to God's grace and timing, and placement. Because that is how Armando came. Sorry. It made it a lot easier I had no clue who he was he had no clue who I was," said Miranda.

Armando Alcala said Briana called him to schedule a haircut appointment.

Alcala thought the haircut was for her daughter, but he was wrong.

It was actually for Briana.

“I started cutting her hair and she started breaking down and that is when I looked at her and felt something in my heart to tell her you know what, took my hat off and cut all my hair off too,” said Armando Alcala, Big Fellaz Barber Shop Owner.

Armando, shaved off all of his own hair to show his support.

For someone who up until this day was a complete stranger.

Briana said she's always had long hair and that she was very emotional on her way to the barbershop.

Never did she imagine she would leave that very same barber shop with such a special memory and someone who is no longer a stranger.

In fact, she now considers Armando an extra member of her family.
