Girl almost kidnapped in El Centro

KYMA

EL CENTRO, Calif. (KYMA, KECY) - The El Centro Police Department says a girl was pulled into a car and almost kidnapped in El Centro.

Police say the incident happened on Sunday night and the girl was a minor.

The attempted kidnapping occurred on Cottonwood Circle just two minutes from El Centro Regional Medical Center.

The girl told officers she was able to jump out and escape.

While ECPD was not available for comment, it did release the following statement:

"We want to take this time to remind our citizens to be aware of their surroundings. Avoid areas
that are not well-lit and hidden from public view. Do not allow small children to be
unsupervised. Teach your children it is more important to be safe and get out of a threatening
situation than it is to be polite. They should trust their feelings. Let them know it is okay to yell,
scream and run away from individuals they believe are trying to harm or abduct them. Teach
your children their full names, addresses, and phone numbers
."

The incident is still under investigation and anyone with information is asked to call Detective Jeff Malcomb at (760) 335-4661.
