Man arrested for sexual abuse in Yuma

Mark Pierson of Yuma, Arizona was arrested on July 20 for three felonies and was booked into the Yuma County Detention Center

YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY) - Mark Pierson, a 54-year-old man was arrested last Wednesday for one count of sexual conduct with a minor and two counts of abuse.

Pierson is being held on a cash only bond of $150k on three felonies including sexual abuse with a minor, reckless abuse and child/vulnerable adult abuse.

According to the Yuma County Sheriff's Office (YCSO), the investigation started with a welfare check on a newborn who was born inside a home around East Armada Drive near the Foothills.

The mother of the newborn was a minor and reported as a run-away from California.

She was also entered into the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children in 2020 and has been located by YCSO.

The newborn has been turned over to the Arizona Department of Child Safety.
