Bond set at $25k for woman charged with 3 felonies, 2 misdemeanors

YUMA, Ariz (KYMA, KECY) - A well-known local horse instructor accused of sexual conduct with two minors made an appearance in the South County Justice Court today to learn her formal charges.

25-year-old Makaila Yablonski was formally charged with 3 felonies and 2 misdemeanors.

One of the victims was in court and his mother made a statement.

Makaila Yablonski is formally charged now with 3 counts of sexual conduct with a minor, which allegedly started in February and happened through July of this year.

She was also charged with public sexual indecency and indecent exposure.

The victim’s mother says she is speechless.

“My son and Makaila have been friends and as far as I knew, that’s all I thought it was," said the victim's mother.

The defendant’s lawyer expressed Yablonski's family ties in Yuma and how she is the main caretaker of her six horses who would be left without an owner.

As of Thursday, she is being held on a $25,000 bond for her three felonies at the Yuma County Detention Center.

Yablonski’s bond was set at $50,000 before Judge Juan M. Guerrero reduced the amount.

“I’m sure she understands the gravity of the situation and will comply with the conditions of release," said Judge Guerrero.

The victim’s mother shared how even after asking her son what was going on with him and Yablonski, she was again told it was nothing more than friends.

“When I asked my son, that’s what I was told," said the victim's mother.

Yablonski’s parents were also present at court and after denying an on-camera statement, her mother said “She is innocent until proven guilty” and shared that their family is receiving death threats.

Yablonski will make her next court appearance on July 29th for the felony charges and on Sept. 15th on the misdemeanors.
