22-year-old Adrian Perez-Arzola remains on $250,000 cash-only bond

YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY) - After an emotional plea from the mother of a teenage boy shot and killed in May, one of the two twin brothers accused of the crime was denied a reduced bond in court Tuesday.

22-year-old Adrian Perez-Arzola appeared in Yuma County Superior Court Tuesday morning for a hearing where his defense attorney requested that his $250,000 cash-only bond be lowered.

The presiding judge Brandon Kinsey listened to both sides, including an emotional plea from the victim's mother who pointed to the emotional distress this has taken on her family.

She explained how she cannot sleep and no longer feels safe in her own home following the incident. She also told the court she wants to stand up for her family and speak for her son who is no longer here to speak for himself.

At one point, the mother explaining that she watched her son "take his last breath" on their living room floor.

The state prosecutor then explained to the judge that the bond was even "too low" for the crime committed, urging the court to keep the bond at the original amount. The prosecutor also claiming that there is evidence to prove so, pointing to the twins' admission of guilt on a recorded tape.

In the end, Judge Kinsey denied the reduced bond, keeping it at $250,000 cash-only, and keeping Perez-Arzola behind bars.

Just after 10 p.m. Wednesday, May 4, the Yuma Police Department responded to the neighborhood of E. 26th Place near Mary Avenue and Olivia Avenue.
