Colorado River is the most endangered river in the U.S.

YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY) - The Colorado River is now the most endangered river in the U.S., according to one conservation group.

In its new report, American Rivers says the Colorado gained the top spot because of climate change and outdated water management practices.

According to the group, the river's flow could be reduced by 10% to 30% by 2050.

Last year, the federal government declared a water shortage on the Colorado for the first time.

The report based its findings on several factors, including the significance of the river to people and ecosystems, and the scale of the threat.

The Colorado River is a major water and electrical source to more than 40 million people in the west.
