Three fires in El Centro abandoned homes

Cause of fires under investigation

EL CENTRO, Calif. (KYMA, KECY) - Fire crews responded to three abandoned homes on fire in El Centro on Tuesday afternoon.

The El Centro Fire Department (ECFD) says they responded to calls of a fire around 2:30 p.m. When firefighters arrived on the scene, they said they noticed three separate fires all in the same area.

Matthew Ryckman is the deputy safety information officer with ECFD. He says the call was quickly upgraded to a 3rd alarm fire due to the tensity of the situation.

"We did have one firefighter who also suffered a non-life-threatening injury," he said.

ECFD Interim Chief Cedric Ceseña said these fires were suspicious in nature however a cause is yet to be determined and is under investigation.
