Update: 5 people injured, including 1 young child and 2 juveniles, during shooting at Tanger Outlets in Glendale

Glendale police responded to the shooting at Tanger Outlets

GLENDALE, Ariz. (ABC) - Glendale police are investigating a shooting at Tanger Outlets near 95th and Glendale avenues just west of Westgate.

Police say five people, including one young child and two juveniles, were shot during the incident which happened around 2:45 p.m. Wednesday.

The incident reportedly began as a confrontation between two groups of people and escalated into a fight and then a shooting.

Police say one group was two adults, including an armed male, a female and a young child. The other group was a group of juvenile males.

Both adults, the young child and two juvenile males were shot during the fight.

The young child was originally reported to be in critical condition, but police have since said the child is stable.

The two juvenile males were from the second group and are in the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Businesses in the area were on lockdown for several hours as police investigated.

Officers evacuated the mall to help keep store employees and customers safe.

"They escorted us out the store and walked us around the back," said store employee who did not want her name used.

The store employee said she waited hours at the nearby Hampton Inn for the 'all clear'.

"It's just exhausting. It was frightening. It is sad things like that have to happen," added the woman.

Thankfully, she said it did not happen inside her store.

Shoppers also witnessed the chaos.

Brian Kanu was among the many who arrived and saw the investigation.

"As I pull up, I just saw the whole place taped up and locked down," said Kanu.

Brian says he came to the outlet mall Wednesday wanting to return an item at one of the stores.

"I was kind of surprised. This stuff doesn't really happen on this side of town right next to the stadium. It is pretty tight when it comes to security," added Kanu.

The lockdown was lifted around 5:30 p.m.

Police say no suspects are still outstanding.

Authorities are still trying to work out who fired shots and who was a victim, but believe there are no suspects missing.

Police say anyone looking to pick up a loved one that is at Tanger Outlets should go to the red lot at State Farm Stadium.

Phoenix Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) are assisting Glendale police in the investigation.

Aerial footage outside the St. Joseph's Westgate Medical Center, which is located near the shooting scene, showed a vehicle with police tape around it. It is unclear if this is connected to the shooting investigation.
