Harvest Preparatory Academy high school students win multiple science awards
YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY-TV) - High schoolers at Harvest Preparatory Academy won multiple science awards at the regional science and engineering fair.
Every year students across southern Arizona compete in a regional science and engineering fair also known as SARSEF.
On Feb. 28th through March 5th about 130 schools participated and 1,500 projects were judged.
Harvest Prep. Academy competed taking home multiple awards.
“I couldn’t be more proud of these students,” said Harvest Prep. science teacher Alfred Santos.
Harvest Prep. received 22 sponsored awards, 11 grand awards and six top awards.
“The success we have right now wouldn’t be happening without them and have them participate and their love for science, it shows that they really love what they are doing because if they don’t they wouldn’t have any of these achievements,” said Santos.
They even won the top high school award for having the highest presentation winners.
“I wanted to try and I didn’t expect to get first place but you know you dream high and you can get as high as you want,” said first-place science winner Christopher Miranda.
Andrea Romero also received multiple awards of her own.
“I think since always I knew I loved science but doing the science projects makes you aware of what your capabilities are and what are your strengths and helps you understand what you want to do in life,” said Harvest Prep. science fair winner Andrea Romero.
SARSEF selected the top nine students to go to Atlanta, Ga. for the international science fair with three students attending from Harvest Prep. Academy.
