Flight of a lifetime with the Blue Angels

News 11's Wiley Jawhary flies with the Blue Angels

EL CENTRO, Calif. (KYMA, KECY) - The Blue Angels are in El Centro preparing for the air show but flying with the Blue Angels is the opportunity of a lifetime.

Our reporter Wiley Jawhary was able to fly with the Blue Angels. Wiley was flown on the F-A 18 super hornet with Navy Lieutenant Griffin Stangel.

When pilots perform stunts they go through forces of Gravity and Wiley experienced exactly what the body goes through during high Gravity maneuvers.

On one of the maneuvers, Wiley hit about seven forces of gravity. While Wiley became very lightheaded after the maneuver, Lieutenant Stangel said this is something he is used to.

“No, you get used to it after doing it a couple of hundred times, not bad at all,” he said.

The El Centro festival of flight is this Saturday doors open at 10 a.m. and after doing it virtually last year because of COVID-19, this is something the Imperial Valley has been waiting for.

News 11's Wiley Jawhary will have the full flight experience on our evening edition at 5 p.m. MST.
