Two of 17 missionaries kidnapped in Haiti released

(KYMA, KECY/ NBC News) - Two missionaries who were taken hostage in Haiti last month have been released according to Christian Aid Ministries.

Members of a gang called 400 Mawozo are believed to have taken 16 Americans and one Canadian citizen hostage and the hostage takers were believed to be members of Ohio-based Christian Aid Ministries.

The 17 people which included five children were taken hostage after visiting this orphanage in October.

In a statement, Christian Aid Ministries said the two hostages are "safe, in good spirits and being cared for."

The group did not give any more information, saying that "only limited information could be provided" and that the names could not be provided of those released or why they were released.

Christian Aid Ministries said while they are pleased that two of the hostages have been released that their hearts are still with the 15 still held captive.
