UPDATE: 4th Avenue hit and run suspect arrested

YPD says case is currently under investigation

YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY) - The Yuma Police Department (YPD) announces Friday it has caught, arrested and booked the driver involved in Thursday morning's hit-and-run crash on S. 4th Avenue.

Officer Christina Fernandez confirms an 87-year-old resident of Wellton, Ariz. allegedly drove the car which apparently struck a 41-year-old who was walking southbound in the crosswalk of the 1600 block of S. 4th Avenue.

The elderly man did not stop to help the pedestrian, nor did he report the accident.

Yuma Police have arrested and booked him on a felony charge for hit and run accident resulting in injury.

The crash remains under investigation. Anyone with information on this incident is urged to call (928) 373-4700 or 78-Crime at (928) 782-7463 to remain anonymous.
