1 person killed in three-car crash in Somerton

Four people were taken to the hospital with injuries

SOMERTON, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY) - One person was killed in a three-vehicle crash in Somerton early Thursday morning.

Somerton Cocopah Fire Department (SCFD) said it received reports of a crash close to 6 a.m. at Avenue B and County 20 1/2 Street. Upon arrival, firefighters found a white Ford F-250 with heavy damage to the front, a silver Chevrolet Sedan with heavy front end damage, and a white Dodge SUV with damage to the rear passenger side.

Firefighters used 'jaws of life' to disentangle the driver of the sedan. Once released, they performed CPR and advanced life support.

Paramedics transferred five people to the hospital. Three individuals from the white Ford, the driver of the SUV complaining of chest pain, and the driver of the sedan.

SCFD said the driver of the sedan was declared dead by the Yuma Regional Medical Center upon arrival.

This was a mutual aid was requested from Rural Metro and San Luis Fire Department.

The Yuma County Sheriff's Office is investigating the cause of the crash.
