San Luis Rio Colorado’s economy grows as border restrictions remain in place
SAN LUIS RIO COLORADO, Sonora (KYMA, KECY) - The Mexican economy increases as the border remains closed for non-essential travel.
Although the extensions of restrictions have decreased the clientele and tourists who visit San Luis, Ariz., it's been a positive factor for businesses and merchants in San Luis Rio Colorado, Sonora, since the local economy has increased.
President of the National Chamber of Commerce in San Luis Río Colorado, Ángel Leonardo Limón, said, "For us as Mexican merchants, it gave us a break at a certain point that the customs office was closed and they weren't crossing into the United States because there were sales in local businesses in the midst of a pandemic because obviously it helped us and gave us a break but Also, many American citizens stopped coming through the long lines to return to the American side."
Just last week, the mayor of San Luis sent President Joe Biden a letter requesting the reopening of the border. He considers that the restrictions no longer serve their purpose, and reactivation is necessary to open the city.
