Yuma Sector: Unaccompanied minors continue to cross border

YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY) - As Yuma Sector Border Patrol agents continue to apprehend large groups at the border, they continue to encounter unaccompanied children.

Agents said they found three children near the Morelos Dam on the west side of Yuma last Sunday morning after illegally crossing the border on their own. When agents stopped the trio to question them, a nine-year-old girl, 12, and 17-year-old boy claiming to be cousins.

Border Patrol agents transported them to the station for processing. They say in the past week, they have apprehended 24 unaccompanied children under 12 years old.
