MEXICALI, B.C. (KYMA, KECY)-With each passing day Mexicali sees an increase in coronavirus cases and deaths caused by the virus, as it continues to spread.

Despite the fact that health officials in Baja California reiterate the community to stay home and take social distancing serious to prevent the spread, deaths continue to rise in Mexicali.

Baja California now sees a total of 65 deaths with a total of 538 confirmed cases.

On Thursday, health officials confirmed 216 cases, 122 suspected cases, and 22 deaths in Mexicali.

Health authorities estimate that the most critical number of infections will be the first two weeks of May.

The Secretary of Health in Baja California Alonso Pérez Rico says they are prepared for the critical weeks to come. Adding that there are hospital spaces and medical equipment such as ventilators for patients.

Considering how Mexicali has one of the highest populations in Baja California and the third-highest of reported cases, health officials recommend the community to stay home until June 1.
