Silver Spur Rodeo continues to be a hallmark community event
YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY)- The Silver Spur Rodeo has been a staple event for residents in the desert southwest.
Silver Spur Rodeo Executive Secretary, Patrick Collins said, "What kid doesn't like horses. What kid doesn't like animals, period? So you know just being able to see it in the action of it, you know it just brings the whole family in. It's just an enjoyable day for the family to spend time together."
Collins spent his childhood attending the Silver Spur rodeo with his father. He never forgets the feeling of being in the stands among friends and loved ones.
"Now being active on the committee, I can look back at books of old pictures. And from those days in the 70's when it was still there on Arizona Avenue. So I really enjoy just the memories of it."
But Collins added that it's thanks to those who were pioneers of the event that has helped this rodeo stand the test of time.
"We wouldn't be here without the people that were there for the 1st rodeo, or the 10th rodeo or the 50th. So there's a lot of people that have worked many, many years to just get this event to where it is today."
For rodeo clown, Backflip Johnny, it's about keeping the crowd smiling from ear to ear.
"The best medicine anybody can have is laughter. I mean if you laugh it makes your whole body feel better. And lets people around you feel better. I mean laughing is just the nectar of the gods right there."
