Harlem Wizards help local school raise funds
YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY)- Hundreds of community members came out to support the fundraiser basketball game between the Harlem Wizards and local agencies on the hardcourt.
It's the first time that Mary Otondo Elementary hosted the Harlem Wizards. But there was a smile on every face in the crowd as the Harlem Wizards performed tricks and stunts and all of it goes towards a great cause.
Minerva Whittaker, the Parent Teacher Organization President for Mary Otondo Elementary said the goal of the event was to raise funds for a new playground set and other improvements on the campus but none of it would be possible without the community's support.
"We can rely on our school and our parents and the kids to help support us. But if we didn't have the community outreach, I don't think this event would be a success. And thanks to them and all Yuma, Somerton, San Luis, we're making this happen right now."
Whittaker said the school hopes to raise $10,000.
