Man shot and killed by in-laws in California

DUBLIN, Calif. (NBC, KYMA) - A New York Times tech executive, shot down at a California sports complex over the weekend and police say his in-laws are responsible.

Shouyong Zhang and Shili Chen are jailed facing murder and conspiracy charges.

Police say they believe the couple fatally shot their son-in-law, 40-year-old Jonathan McKinsey.

The shooting took place Saturday afternoon in the parking lot at Dublin sports grounds.

According to court documents, McKinsey and his wife, Candice Jang, were in the middle of a child custody battle.

Records show, last year a judge granted Jang's petition for a domestic violence temporary restraining order against McKinsey.

He filed for divorce in December. A hearing was scheduled for next month.

McKinsey's in-laws are due in court Wednesday.
