Reporter covering Australia flooding rescues man from sinking car

MORAYFIELD, Australia (CBS, KYMA) - A reporter covering flooding in Australia is being hailed for an unexpected act of heroism rescuing a man from a sinking car.

Footage captured shows Will Murray, a reporter for the Australian Broadcasting Corporation, swimming towards a pickup truck submerged in the water.

Joining him in the rescue effort is a brave local bystander in Morayfield, a town on Australia's East Coast.

Murray was with his photographer filming the floodwater when he said he saw a vehicle go into water, float, and start to sink, all happening within seconds.

"My colleague and I sort of started to watch him sink further into the water and thought, 'Well, we don't have time to wait.' So I threw off my shoes, gave my glasses to my colleague and jumped in and started swimming. And thankfully somebody nearby jumped in with me to give me a hand," Murray shared.

Murray and the bystander managed to pull the driver from the vehicle moments before it was completely submerged, and was seen hugging the driver, describing it as one the of the best moments of his life.
