Chemical leak in Toledo, Ohio forces evacuation

TOLEDO, Ohio (CBS, KYMA) - A chemical leak in Toledo, Ohio forced some residents out of their homes while others were ordered to shelter in place.

Officials said a chemical tank at MC Terminal exploded Tuesday night.

They identified the chemical as glycidyl methacrylate an industrial product used in paints, coatings, and adhesives.

During a news conference Wednesday, Toledo Mayor Wade Kapszukiewicz said first responders and hazmat crews will stay back, for now, due to safety concerns.

The cause of the blast remains under investigation.
