Tyreek Hill liable on two counts in civil trial verdict

MIAMI (CNN, KYMA) - A jury found former Miami Dolphins player Tyreek Hill liable for two counts related to domestic violence in a civil trial in Miami.

The judge awarded his estranged wife, Lakeeta Vaccaro Hill, $500,000 in compensatory damages.

The jury also found Hill liable for two counts of battery for an incident in January 2024, and another in April of last year.

However, the jury did not find him liable for eight other counts, which include battery, continuing domestic violence and assault.

Vaccaro Hill testified to an alleged tumultuous relationship, and claimed he pulled her hair, shoved her to the ground and threatened her. He denied most of the allegations.

Meanwhile, the judge dropped an 11th count, and while the outcome is not a clear legal victory for anyone, the judge said, in court, it was not obvious who, if anyone, will want to file an appeal.

Hill is seeking to return to the NFL after the Dolphins released him while he recovered from major surgery.

After the verdict, the NFL said it's been monitoring developments in the matter, which remains under review of its personal conduct policy.

The league could discipline Hill under the policy, but it does not require criminal charges to suspend a player.
