Iran ballistic missiles fired at U.S. base seen from Jordan

ASH-SHAJARAH, JORDAN (CBS, KYMA) - Iran's Revolutionary Guard said it fired ballistic missiles at a base in Jordan used by the U.S. military and attacked 10 ships on September 9, after the U.S. said it had destroyed five Iranian oil tankers, in a sharp escalation of the six-month-old war.

Eyewitness video obtained by Reuters from Ash-Shajarah, Jordan, showed multiple bright objects streaking across the night sky before erupting into flashes of light in what Jordanian authorities said were its air defenses intercepting the incoming missiles.

Reuters verified the location and date when the videos were filmed by the original file metadata. The location was further verified by the buildings, road layout and utility poles which matched archive and satellite imagery. Jordan’s state news agency said air-defense systems destroyed ballistic missiles originating from Iranian territory.

Although Iran said its missiles inflicted heavy damage, Jordan said its air defenses intercepted 18 of the 20 Iranian missiles, with two falling in unpopulated areas, and that there were no casualties. A U.S. official said Iran’s strikes in Jordan were ineffective and all American troops were accounted for.
