CAUGHT ON CAMERA: New York man struck by lightning

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. (NBC, KYMA) - Incredible surveillance video capturing the moment Staten Island man is struck by lightning last Thursday.

It happened on Todt Hill Road near Windsor Road in Staten Island after storms rolled through.

Surveillance video shows Thomas Fahmy suddenly dropping to the ground immediately after being struck. He says the impact sent a shock through his entire body.

Miraculously, he never lost consciousness and somehow found the strength to get back on his feet and look for help.

The FDNY confirmed crews responded to the emergency. Fahmy was rushed to Northwell Staten Island University Hospital, where he was monitored overnight and released the following day.

He works at Rep. Nicole Malliotakis' Staten Island Office.

On Monday, the congresswoman released a statement saying, "We are grateful that Thomas, a member of my congressional staff is alive and well after being struck by lightning last week. I thank the good samaritan who ran to his aid and the medical staff at Staten Island University Hospital who treated him."

Fahmy says he suffered no visible burns or major injuries. He says he has always been a man of faith, but surviving the lightning strike has given him a new perspective on life.
