Empire State Building turns pink for Dolly Parton

NEW YORK CITY (NBC, KYMA) - New York City paid tribute to country music legend Dolly Parton Tuesday night, hours after her death at the age of 80.

The Empire State Building illuminated its tower lights in a vibrant pink sparkle from 9:25 to 10:25, honoring Parton and supporting her imagination library.

The start time was a nod to Parton's 1980 workplace comedy and signature anthem, 9 to 5.

The landmark also recognized the singer's seven-decade career and her lasting impact through philanthropy.

Parton's charitable work included the dollywood foundation and imagination library, which provides books to children to encourage early literacy.

The tribute gave New Yorkers a chance to celebrate Parton's music and the legacy she built beyond the stage.
