Fiery crash shuts down busy highway in North Carolina for hours

PITT COUNTY, N.C. (NBC, KYMA) - A busy North Carolina highway was shut down for hours this morning, after a fiery crash with a tractor trailer.

It happened on Highway 11 in Pitt County around 7:00 a.m. Eastern.

Police say a tractor trailer from a metal recycling company flipped on its side at the intersection and caught fire.

Two other vehicles were also involved in the crash. Police say one person had non-life-threatening injuries.

The highway was able to completely reopen Friday afternoon, after the wreckage was finally removed.

No word yet on what caused the crash.
