Two dead after shooting at a Chicago elementary school

CHICAGO (NBC, KYMA) - Two people are dead after a shooting at a Chicago elementary school.

Fire officials say the shooting was reported shortly before 4 p.m. Central Monday at Mark Twain Elementary School on S. Lotus Avenue near W. 52nd Street.

Police say two adults were found unresponsive inside the school.

One of the victims, a 48-year-old woman, suffered a single gunshot wound to the head, she was taken to an area hospital, where she later died.

A 63-year-old man was also shot once in the head and was pronounced dead at a local hospital.

Police referred to the woman as a victim, but authorities have not identified a shooter or said who fired the shots. A weapon was recovered at the scene.

Detectives are now working to determine exactly what happened inside the school and who was responsible.
