One dead, eight injured in shooting outside Denver club

DENVER (NBC, KYMA) - One person was killed and eight others were hurt in a shooting outside a Denver club early Monday morning.

The shooting was reported at 12:07 a.m. Mountain, according to a spokesman for the Denver Police Department.

The spokesman said it appears the shooting happened in either the patio area or parking lot of Ultra Lounge, which is located on E. Hampden Avenue, east of Yosemite Street.

"What we understand is that there was another event at another location earlier in the day, where there was a confrontation between two groups. Apparently, that confrontation spilled over to this location later in the day, where they confronted each other on the outdoor patio as well as in the parking lot, and gunfire ultimately erupted. So far at this time, we've not recovered any weapons, but the evidence suggests that at least two weapons were fired during this incident."

Chief Ron Thomas, Denver Police Department

So far, no arrests have been made, but police believe at least two different people fired shots.

There's still a large police presence in the area, and as a result of the investigation westbound Hampden Avenue is closed at S. Florence Street. Eastbound traffic is getting through, but is down to one lane.

Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to call Metro Denver Crime Stoppers at 720-913-7867. Callers can remain anonymous and could be eligible for a reward of up to $2,000.
