Border crossing deterrent buoys dislodged in Rio Grande

(NBC, KYMA) - Buoys intended to deter migrant crossings along the Rio Grande River in Texas have dislodged and are floating downstream after heavy rains hit the region.

Loredo, Texas is bracing for the arrival of over a hundred buoys moving toward the city's four international bridges.

It comes after about 620 buoys intended to deter migrant crossings on the rio grande were stripped loose by floodwaters earlier this week.

Approximately 120 of those buoys are now moving downstream from Eagle Pass, which temporarily closed its international bridges on Thursday.

Thankfully, the city reported no injuries and no structural damage after the buoys passed through.

Loredo officials say the city's four international bridges are expected to remain open and operational.

And that the city is coordinating with the federal government on the removal of the buoys.
