‘Jurassic Park’ actor Sam Neill dies at age 78

(NBC, KYMA) - Renowned actor Sam Neill, best known for his role in "Jurassic Park" as Dr. Allen Grant, has died at the age of 78.

The global blockbuster made Neill an instant household name and cinematic star, but the actor's career reached far beyond dinosaurs.

The Northern Ireland-born actor built a remarkable career spanning more than five decades, becoming one of the most recognizable and respected actors of his generation.

When asked about retirement on the Today Show two years ago, Niell expressed, "I never want to retire, because I love my work so much."

A spokesperson for his family took to social media to make this statement, "Sam was surrounded by family and passed with the dignity that has characterized his whole life."
