Vigil held for fallen officer in Ohio

RITTMAN, Ohio (NBC, KYMA) - Hundreds of people gathered outside the Rittman Police Department Monday night for a candlelight vigil honoring Sgt. Scott Ries, who was killed in the line of duty, along with Christie McWilliams and her daughter, McKinley McWilliams, during a deadly shooting in Wayne County.

Sgt. Ries was killed in the line of duty Sunday night after responding to a break-in shooting on Chippwea Trail that left a total of four people dead including the two victims and the suspected shooter.

Members of the Sharpton family tell me they knew both Sgt. Ries and the McWilliams mother and daughter.

"We came out to support the families. This is tough. Yes, it is. We're a small community and this was a shock and everybody knows everybody and so this was a shock, really a shock," said one attendee.

Community leaders calling on the community to lean on each other in the coming days.

"We're in this together. Thank you, take your time, we'll get through this," said one community leader.
