$62,000 worth of Pokemon cards stolen in Japan

NIIGATA, NIIGATA PREFECTURE, Japan (NBC, KYMA) - A trading card shop in central Japan, says around 5,000 Pokemon cards were stolen in an overnight burglary targeting high-value collectibles, with the losses estimated at $62,000.

A trading card shop in the city of Niigata was hit by a collectable thief.

"There was quite a bit of cash in the register, but it was completely untouched. The only thing that was targeted were the cards", according to a store representative.

Around 5,000 Pokemon cards were stolen from the store in the overnight heist. The shop representative said only high-value collectibles featuring popular characters were targeted.

The total loss was estimated at about 10 million Yen or about $62,000 U.S. dollars.
