Two arrested after climbing to the top of the Empire State Building for marriage proposal

NEW YORK (CBS, KYMA) - Two people are in custody after climbing to the top of the Empire State Building in New York City, according to WCBS.

Around noon Wednesday, the couple were spotted on the radio and TV transmission tower on the very top of the historic building.

They presented a banner that read, "When the power of love beats the love of power, the world knows peace," a quote that is often attributed to Jimi Hendrix.

It also appeared they got engaged, with one of the climbers spotted getting down on one knee in front of the other before being taken into custody by New York City police officers.

The NYPD identified them as Ivan Kuznetsov, 32, and Angelina Nikolau, 33, although Kuznetsov's social media page identifies him as Ivan Beerkus.

They live in East Orange, New Jersey, and have a history of conducting similar stunts, climbing tall buildings without ropes or other safety equipment.

They face a host of charges, including burglary, reckless endangerment, criminal mischief, violation of local law, possession of burglar's tools, criminal tampering, criminal trespass and disorderly conduct, sources said.
