Sunday marks National VCR Day

(CNN, KYMA) - It's time to celebrate the device that transformed home entertainment as Sunday is National VCR Day.

The VCR gave viewers the ability to record television programs and watch them on their own schedule.

The technology helped fuel a home movie boom through the 1970s, 1980s and 1990s.

Millions of Americans built personal video libraries and recorded family memories on VHS tapes.

Today, many of those tapes still exist, but experts are urging people to digitize those memories before they're lost.
