Replica KITT from ‘Knight Rider’ gets speeding ticket from NYC

VOLO, Ill. (CBS, KYMA) - A replica of the famed KITT car from the popular 80s show "Knight Rider" was caught on speeding cameras in New York City earlier this month.

Problem is: KITT is in a museum in Illinois.

The ticket is for 11 miles per hour over the speed limit in a school zone.

Officials with the museum say a traffic camera captured the novelty license plate and tied it to the Volo Museum in Illinois. The museum got a $50 ticket. They have requested a hearing.

Officials say KITT hasn't moved from the museum in years. They joked that David Hasselhoff, the show's star, owes them $50.

The museum's marketing director, Jim Wojdyla, said this replica is one of the most accurate replicas out there.

He said many have the exterior with the pacing light, but not many have the interior set up like they do.

He also said legendary Hollywood car customizer George Barris, who designed the Super Pursuit version of Knight Rider, authenticated it and signed the car's hood.
