Police and protesters clash outside Brooklyn hospital

BROOKLYN, N.Y. (CBS, KYMA) - Police and protesters clashed outside a medical center in Brooklyn Saturday evening and into the early hours of Sunday after reports of an arrest by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents in the area.

Footage captured by X user @reggiekf2 shows a large crowd near the Wyckoff Heights Medical Center in Bushwick.

In the video, a New York City Police Department (NYPD) officer can be seen grabbing a protester and throwing them to the ground.

Several people then jump in, including additional NYPD officers.

According to Brooklyn councilwoman Sandy Nurse, New Yorkers showed up to the hospital after word had spread that ICE agents had brought an individual they had detained to the emergency room to be treated for injuries.

The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) identified the arrested individual as Chidozie Wilson Okeke, an immigrant from Nigeria who had overstayed a visa, the New York Times reported citing the DHS.

Fox5NY reported that eight people were formally arrested and charged with "resisting arrest, obstructing governmental administration, reckless endangerment, and criminal mischief. One person was released on a criminal court summons."
