NYC’s Symphony Space hosts ‘Stories from the City of Immigrants’

NEW YORK (CBS, KYMA) - NYC's Symphony Space hosted an event Monday evening titled "Stories from the City of Immigrants" with several notable celebrities from film, television, and Broadway.

The night was produced by Waterwell and Symphony Space in collaboration with the New York Immigration Coalition as part of their NY Proud campaign.

The event was also recorded for the Selected Shorts radio show and podcast. Event organizers hoped the event would spark conversation and action regarding recent immigration actions by the Trump Administration.

"Stories from the City of Immigrants" was an evening of monologues curated from oral history collections that vividly brought to life the vital role immigrants play in New York City's past, present and future.

The stories spanned 125 years and many countries of origin, highlighting the grueling journeys so many people have taken to make NYC their home.

Hosted by actor Arian Moayed, the night featured performances from Simu Liu (known from Marvel's Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings), Sepideh Moafi (known for her role in The Pitt), Tramell Tillman (recent Emmy winner from Severance) and many more.

The event also showcased music from women-led samba reggae drumline marching band Fogo Azul.
