(CNN, KYMA) - Several Texas families are taking Camp Mystic to court, alleging gross negligence over the flash floods that killed more than two dozen young campers this summer.

Three lawsuits were filed Monday by the families of seven campers and two counselors who died in the July 4 tragedy.

One of the suits accuses the camp of housing girls in flood-prone cabins, and not following state rules that require evacuation plans.

Each lawsuit seeks more than a million dollars in damages.

Camp attorneys say staff did their best once the warnings came through during an unprecedented disaster.

Camp Mystic previously said it will reopen next summer with new safety protocols in place.

The torrential rain in July caused parts of the Guadalupe River to rise from about three-feet to almost 30-feet in only 45 minutes. The flooding killed more than 130 people across the region.

An attorney for the camp last month noted 166 girls were safely evacuated during the disaster.

The attorney was contacted for comment on the lawsuits.
