At least three dead in Philadelphia shooting

PHILADELPHIA (NBC, KYMA/KECY) - At least three people have died following a shooting in Philadelphia early Monday morning.

According to Commissioner Kevin Bethel with the Philadelphia Police Department, the shooting happened before 1:00 a.m. Eastern.

Witnesses at the scene say at least 100 shots were fired at a street party with around 300 people in the Grays Ferry neighborhood along South Etting Street.

Over a dozen people were shot during the incident, including two teens, both of whom are expected to survive.

Police say around 40 individuals may have been present at the time of the shooting.

One person was taken into custody with a weapon, although their role in the shooting is unclear.

"This is coward stuff. When you see the size of this block, I mean individuals just shooting randomly into houses, into cars, children out here, I mean, this is coward, want-to-be thug stuff. This is stuff it's hard to understand why individuals engage in this behavior. But as we do in all of our investigations we will get to the root cause and we will bring those individuals to justice."
