Fans of Selena pay their respects to the late singer
CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas (NBC, KYMA/KECY) - Fans of the late Selena showed up at her gravesite and memorial in Corpus Christi Monday to pay their respects to the Quieen of Tejano music.
Monday marked the 30th anniversary of music legend Selena Quintanilla Perez's shocking murder at the hands of her fan club's president.
While her death was just shy of her 24th birthday and sent shockwaves across the globe, Selena's legacy proves enduring with loyal fans clamoring to see her statue and gravesite, or wait in line for limited edition makeup with her name emblazoned on it, as well as visit her wax statue at Madame Tussaud's Hollywood in Los Angeles.
Meanwhile, for the last three decades, Yolanda Saldivar, her convicted killer, has been serving a life sentence at a Central Texas prison.
Although Saldivar, now 64, petitioned for parole under review, according to Texas Department of Criminal Justice online records, her parole was denied last week.
A three-member panel of the Texas Board of Pardons and Paroles voted not to release her. The panel said her case will be eligible for parole review again in 2030.
