Americans look for alternatives to store-bought eggs

(KYMA, KECY/ CBS) - Americans have been going for a different option to store-bought eggs following a fear Bird Flu-related shortages.

Instead of going to the grocery store, some have turned to raising chicken.

One couple in New Hampshire have a business of renting out chicken and providing resources on raising the hens. Their services cost about $600 for six months, with 2 hens providing about a dozen eggs a week.

Egg prices have been up 15% since February, according to USDA data., averaging $4.95.

The USDA also announced a plan to spend $1 billion to address Bird Flu.
