Hollywood strike makes it way to New York

NEW YORK, N.Y. (CBS, KYMA/KECY) - Picketers marched near New York’s Union Square on Tuesday, July 18, in support of the SAG-AFTRA and WGA strike.

Video filmed on East 19th Street shows the strike action. Actors Alison Pill, J Smith-Cameron, Kal Penn, and Susan Sarandon were seen picketing on Tuesday.

Tuesday’s picket marks day four of the SAG-AFTRA strike, after the union joined members of the Writers Guild of America (WGA), who have been on strike for more than two months.

While on strike, actors cannot audition for roles, work acting gigs, or promote any finished projects, according to the announcement. The strike comes as movies like Barbie and Oppenheimer receive global press attention, and just after Emmy nominations were announced.
