Larry Nassar stabbed in prison, reported to be in stable condition

(NBC, KYMA/KECY) - Disgraced sports doctor Larry Nassar was stabbed several times during an altercation in a Florida prison Sunday.

He was stabbed twice in the neck, twice in the back, and six times in the chest by another inmate, accoding to a Federal Correctional Officers' Union leader.

Nassar is said to be in stable condition today following the stabbings.

The cause of the altercation has not been announced.

Nassar was sentenced to decades in prison after pleading guilty to sexually assaulting gymnasts and other athletes, including Olympic medalists, under the guise of medical treatment for hip and leg injuries.

Ultimately, more than 150 accusers spoke out or submitted statements detailing his abuse during his trial. The abuses took place while nassar worked at Michigan State University and for USA Gymnastics.

Separately, Nassar also pleaded guilty to possessing child pornography.
