Ted Kaczynski, “Unabomber,” died by suicide, according to reports

(NBC, KYMA/KECY) - A senior law enforcement official confirms that Ted Kaczynski, known as "The Unabomber" for his 17 year bombing campaign that killed three people and injured 23 others, died by suicide.

He was found unresponsive in his cell early Saturday morning at the Bureau of Prisons Federal Medical Center in Butner, North Carolina.

He was later pronounced dead at a local hospital.

The 81-year old Kaczynski was suffering from cancer, but its not clear what form of cancer.

An autopsy will be conducted by the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner of the State of North Carolina, which is standard procedure for any death that occurs at the Federal Medical Center.

Kaczynski spent about 20 years at Supermax in Colorado before being transferred to Butner in December 2021.
