WI police recover car from a lake, found mother and child dead

MILWAUKEE, Wisc. (NBC) - Police have not yet identified the victims, a woman and child, found submerged Thursday in a vehicle in a Milwaukee lake.

A man, passing by, saw and took a picture of the car, nearly submerged.

Police first responded in the early afternoon with a dive team and paramedics.

Latrice McElroy was driving by when she stopped to see what was going on.

"And as I walked further down, I witnessed the bodies. And that broke me. Cause I [had] seen the kid."

Then, McElroy says she just began to pray.

"They were carrying the little girl in their arms. And I was like my God. So I just began to pray. That could be my family. That could be somebody I know."

The medical examiner also confirmed the deaths of two people.

Authorities have not yet revealed the identities of the little girl or the woman.
