Plane crash in the Gulf of Mexico

VENICE, Flor. (KYMA, KECY/NBC) - Divers in Florida have located an airplane that crashed in the Gulf of Mexico Saturday.

The body of a child was found inside the cabin of the Piper PA-28 aircraft.

The small plane took off from the Venice Municipal Airport around 7:30pm.

It is believed to have gone down a short while later about two-and-a-half miles west of the Venice fishing pier.

Recreational divers discovered a body in the water that may have been connected to the downed plane.

The FAA and the national transportation safety board are expected to investigate the crash.
