Spectacular illusion stops people in their tracks

Tank appears to contain a massive wave

SEOUL, South Korea (KYMA, KECY/NBC News) - It looks like someone has installed a wave tank high above the streets of Seoul, South Korean, but the jaw-dropping display isn't what it seems.

At first glance, you see a massive wave surging inside a huge glass box. A closer look only confirms - you're witnessing water's caged energy.

The reality is, it's actually a media project. Images of the wave are projected on a giant 3-D screen. The project uses 8-K resolution. It covers some 17,500 square feet. That's about the size of four basketball courts.

The realistic animation is designed to be a pleasant diversion for people feeling cooped up due to coronavirus.

"When you cannot traveling or doing that - or cannot go anywhere you can enjoy this kind of art installation or videos, yeah." says graduate student Muhitdinov Rakhmatullo.

The design firm says it's already getting calls from around the world seeking its services. It says it even has interest with a company specializing in billboards in New York's Times Square.
