Mexicali police officer killed outside his home

MEXICALI, Mexico (KYMA) - A Mexicali police officer was killed outside his home, marking the third officer shooting in the border city this year.

The Prosecutor's Office said two masked suspects carried out the attack against 38-year-old Joşé Ramón Bajaras Tuesday afternoon.

He had served with the Mexicali Police Department (MPD) for 15 years.

The Prosecutor's Office said this was a targeted attack as more than 200 shell casings were found at the crime scene.

"The officer had not reported any threats against him or his team. We will investigate police officers to see if there is anything that can contribute to the investigation, but at the moment the information we have is that there were no threats," said Chief Luis Felipe Chan with MPD.

Another person was seriously injured at the scene.
