Mexicali business leaders introduce plan to cut border wait times

MEXICALI, Mexico (KYMA) - Business leaders in Mexicali have a plan to cut border wait times in Calexico.

The proposal would create a dedicated lane for trusted travelers crossing into Mexico at the Calexico Port of Entry.

It has been presented to the Mexican federal government by business leaders in Mexico, who say it's needed because of the long wait times to cross into Mexico.

They believe the long lines are due to the current design of the Mexican Customs Facility.

"These people can enter a secure lane with a much more advanced model than the one currently used at SENTRI, we want to give them a code that opens a door," said Octavio Sandoval, President of Mexicali Business Leaders. "This definition of secure lanes would free up about 40% of the people crossing into Mexico."

The Mexican federal government agreed to go over the proposal sometime this year.
