Mexico’s president inaugurates energy plant in Mexicali

MEXICALI, Mexico (KYMA) - Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum was back in Mexicali to celebrate a new project that could help prevent power outages.

She inaugurated a combined-cycle power plant, which began construction in 2022, Sunday, with the project costing more than $4 billion.

It will help increase the area's electricity supply.

President Sheinbaum announced nearly 4,000 electricity poles will be replaced in order to optimize local consumption and prevent power interruptions.

"High electricity consumption from air conditioners that are sometimes not very efficient leads to very high energy usage. Therefore, having a plant like the one inaugurated today helps guarantee electricity service for Mexicali, both for local businesses in the area as well as for the people who live here," Sheinbaum explained.

During her visit, Sheinbaum also took a tour of the General Hospital in San Luis, Mexico, which is still under construction.
